How Should Companies Measure Supply Chain Execution Performance?

Reported by Olli Benett | June 24th, 2026 @ 01:47 PM

When evaluating supply chain performance, companies often focus on a wide range of KPIs, but not all metrics carry the same weight. Some organizations prioritize order fulfillment rates and on-time delivery because they directly impact customer satisfaction. Others argue that inventory turnover is equally important, as excess inventory ties up capital and increases storage costs.

In my view, the most effective approach is to balance customer-facing and operational metrics. Supply chain execution should be measured through a combination of order accuracy, on-time delivery, warehouse productivity, and inventory turnover rather than a single KPI. Focusing too heavily on one metric can improve one area while creating inefficiencies elsewhere.

What do you think is the most important KPI for measuring supply chain performance, and why?
