I’ve been comparing energy software development companies, and the main lesson is simple: industry pages and impressive technology lists are not enough. A vendor should be able to explain how it handles operational data, legacy integrations, system availability, and security around critical infrastructure.

My current shortlist:

Zoolatech — worth considering for custom energy platforms involving asset monitoring, SCADA and IoT integration, predictive maintenance, grid automation, or complex data engineering. Full disclosure: I’m connected with Zoolatech, so I’m not presenting this as an independent ranking.
XB Software — a reasonable option for energy management systems, operational dashboards, and workflow-heavy platforms.
Orases — looks relevant for utility modernization projects where legacy systems and fragmented data are the main problem.
Exoft — potentially suitable for smart-metering, EV infrastructure, analytics, and customer-facing utility applications.
SCAND — another name to examine for monitoring, billing, analytics, and integration work.

Before selecting any energy software development company, I would ask for:

a live energy-sector reference, not just a prototype;
experience integrating SCADA, AMI, GIS, ERP, historians, or field devices;
clear uptime, incident-response, and disaster-recovery commitments;
an OT/IT security model with audit logs and access controls;
ownership rules for source code, data, and AI models;
measurable outcomes such as reduced downtime, faster field work, or better forecast accuracy.
